Why must I be a teenager in love?

Justin and Feena are all alone on a boat in the middle of nowhere. How scandalous!

Justin wakes up and can’t find Feena. He steps onto the deck and sees her sitting there with her (shoed) feet in the water. She asks Justin to sit down, and he sits a ways away from her. Feena moves closer. She’s acting strange and says how nice it is to be alone with Justin. She talks him up and says his name nine-in-a-half million times. She asks the fifteen-year-old boy if he knows what she’s thinking about. I play dumb and say, “everyone.” Coquettishly, she tells him no and says she’s thinking about him. After more of the same, Feena asks Justin if he loves her. Because I’m roleplaying as a teenager, I say no. Justin responds that no one could hate Feena. She replies that that isn’t what she means. She begins to be flirty until something hits the boat. We see a, maybe, naked girl at the front of the ship.

They drag her up, and the girl begs and pleads with Justin, her hero, to help her. Pirates invaded her island, and all of her sisters are in prison. Justin, being a teenaged boy, is smitten with the, perhaps, nude girl. Feena is concerned, but Justin pledges to help.

We arrive at a sandbar called Pirates Hideout. The only items worth getting are an HP up seed and a Vitality increasing bread. There are only two enemies here: a snake and a crab. The snakes aren’t worth talking about, but the crabs are fun. They have high defense and resist a lot of magic. They’re weak to fire, though. I found them to be a pretty good thing to grind magic against. They respawn when you enter the boat, so use this if you want. The music here is a simple beach ambiance.

In the very middle of the map are more, potentially, naked girls. They inform us one last girl is in the building behind them. Justin gladly enters, but Feena is still unsure. Inside is, as they said, another nude girl, but it doesn’t last. As Feena thought, the girl turns into a monster.

Grinwhale appears. Finally, a difficult boss. Geinwhale had a lure on its head that makes it look like an angler fish. The lure, as you’d have guessed, can entice a character, Justin, to come close. When he gets there, it eats him. The body does several attacks. Bodyslam hits whoever is close to her. It can also do Lightning’s damage to everyone, as well as suck everyone in to eat them. Lure and Grimwhale don’t share HP and can be killed separately. Take out the lure and prepare from there. The fact she has so much AoE is what makes this hard. It all does decent damage, so healing off it can be tough. You should have both characters with Water magic, and I had both know Alheal. Justin had Healer, which he needed to use often. Because Grimwhale seems immune to knife damage, I had to have Feena use magic. Justin became the Paladin. Despite running low on MP, I managed to succeed.

Surprise! It’s another load bearing boss. The party returns to the ship and sets sail. The next night, Feena talks to Justin starring into the lake. He apologizes for not agreeing with her and falling into the obvious trap. It’s amazing what naked girls can do to a young boy. Feena accepts his apology and acknowledges that headstrong attitude is what makes him unique. As the sun rises, we get a peek at what’s to come. We’ve sailed across the Mermaid Sea, and a giant mountain is before us. We’re asked to insert disk two. But I’ll do that…

…next week.

Small laptop screens suck, but now is the best time to take my mandatory/God forced vacation. Unlike BoF, I will return to this. I’m still enjoying the game and want to see what’s to come. I have some qualms, but I think the story, characters, and battle system can overcome them. Technical difficulties abound, so I’ll see you guys in a week!

Also, happy anniversary. One year ago today, I started playing Vagrant Story!
