Me and my writing process/The Weird Downtime Between Games

Like, what do I do? The easy answer is to just play another game, but I kinda didn't want to tonight. Sometimes I'd like to talk about other things, or I'm gonna want a break. Sometimes I'm gonna just not feel well. Sometimes I'm gonna just want to play some baseball, which is what I did tonight. One was a blowout win, and the other was a pitcher's duel; both were wins with my strange team filled with friends. So, what I plan to write about tonight is, pretty much, what I've already discussed: Why I'm here.

My name is Deadaghram/Shuck, and I have a Technical Writing degree from Utah State University. What is a Tech Comm degree, you ask? It means I edit. I took a few classes about writing boring technical documents, like contracts and proposals, so I can do that, as well. But that's not all! There's a lot of other stuff that many of my classmates are doing. Web design, video editing, marketing, graphic design, HR. It's a very open-ended and varying degree. I, however, am doing neither of those. I, for several reasons, am unable to fulfill my degree. But all of that is for another day (and therapist), so let's skip it. My goal is just to be a primary, traditional writer. I didn't enjoy using HTML, and I wasn't any good with Photoshop. I'm a very boring human, so I feel this fits me. Regardless of myself, to keep my skills up-to-date, I've come here to start a blog!

My goal here is to make sure my writing skills don't drop to that of a simple high schooler (take that, children). Since starting this, I've realized how much work my skills needed. I've already learned several things. I've come back to edit this very update several times now, over the last year, since every few months, I re-read it and hate it. It's been five years since my latest grammar class, and I really needed it. I bet you would too. I'm hoping to continue to regain, and surpass, my ability by doing the only thing to increase said skills: using them. I need to work on word variety (listen to Robin Williams and never use very). I SHOULD, probably, also work on my formality, but who knows. Maybe I'll throw in a boring, bland read in between games. I'm full of surprises! ...That's a lie, actually; I'm not.

Another thing I've learned is I suck at writing with a phone. Yes, dear reader, I'm typing on a phone keyboard. Now, I know what you're asking, "Why in any god's name are you writing on a phone?" The answer is to make me a better editor. Sure, I could just edit as I go, like regular people, but if I actually want to get better, I feel like you need to look over terrible stuff. And this is absolutely hot garbage, as is anything typed with a phone. I already have an issue with missed words and wrong plurality. And it'll be exacerbated on this small, unresponsive, touch screen keyboard. Being mediocre and having everything magnified will allow me to become a better editor. I'll go back the next day and make everything look professional and neat. At least, I hope. That's my theory!

So my writing method for this blog is to write a questionably worded essay and then make it better the next day. So far, I think it's working!

And, as I stated in the first several blogs, I'm writing about video games (primarily) because that's what I know and love. Games have been my life for 20 years. Ever since I played Donkey Kong Country, that came packed with my Super Nintendo my aunt and uncle bought for me in Christmas of 1994. DKC gave way to Final Fantasy IV, which my neighbor had, and introduced me to the glory of JRPGs. FFIV, in a sudden three-on-one handicap match, tagged in Final Fantasy VII, which allowed the genre to get its hooks into me, and they have yet to let go. So, here I am, 23 years later, still playing games, loving Squaresoft/Enix (and others) games, and now I'm writing about them.

I'd say I'm writing a love letter, but no one will ever see these. I'm writing these for me and me alone. If anyone sees them, that's rad, but, and no offense, this isn't for you. I'm hoping you enjoy these, nonetheless, but I just write about video games and hone my writing skills. I know I'm not unique in this ambition, and I'm a dime a dozen, but here's my cool little corner of the fandom.

And remind me to use the word but and interjections less often. Thanks!
