As I approached Redmont, I couldn't help but notice the corpses on the bridge. One of them was Gardner, who was luckily still alive. He warns us that Valstein Castle raided the village, and a few soldiers have gotten passed him. Meaning we need to take care of them in the town.
Enter Redmont to see Elena is protecting a little girl. She tries to plead with the soldiers, but they have a dead look in their eyes. Adol makes his presence felt, and everyone looks at him. We make quick work of the soldiers as Sister Nell, Mayor Edger, and Father Pierre join us in the courtyard. We all go to the mayor's house, except for Elena. She takes the kid to the church.
Edgar says the same thing Gardner said, except he adds his observations about them. Edgar noticed that they all looked like soulless husks. Nell runs in to tell us that Elena left the church. Everyone has the feeling she went to the castle, so guess where we're heading?
Two nameless but sane knights are joined by Fran, the maid, outside Valatein Castle. They warn Adol that a black mist emanated from the clock tower, turning everyone it touched into zombies. And from here, we enter the base of our enemies. The mobs are zombie knights, zombie maids (still with manners), two types of mages, and some werewolf dudes. But the real bad guy is gravity. Throughout the incorrectly labeled wings of the castle are floors that were never finished. Falling into the pit takes you into one of three basements. Each of these rooms contains something good, even if they're hidden, so it's worth venturing into. Cracked walls are hard to see, so keep your eyes peeled.
The "west" wing is first, and the pits are obvious. The hidden reward is the Battle Shield. As we're about to learn, each wing has a boss at the end. This guy is Death Fallion. His gimmick is he changes his weakness through the fight. It's color coordinated, so go in with the appropriate magic. Don't be afraid to fall back as he'll summon floor spears as he moves.
From here, we can go three ways. Two paths take you to the same place, so go up the stairs first. At the top is the count's family. They're cool people who humanize our antagonist, but they really hate Chester. The daughter gives us a key from an organ... His wife accepts McGuire's sins because she played a part in this. She wanted the clock tower built, but Elizabetha thinks it's been used to create the zombies.
Killing Death Falion opened the door in the entry foyer. You can also get there by taking the right path and going through an also newly opened gate near the church. But more on that later. The "east" wing sucks. The mages are more persistent, and the floors are hard to judge. Even with the light accessory Alba gave us, it's tough going. But it's impossible without it! Falling into the lava basement has the Battle Armor hidden behind a wall (it could be ravel). At the end of this is a dog with a long, confusing German name. I just attacked him because his fire breath seemed weak. Good luck cornering him, though. He's fast. The puppy drops a pipe organ. Up these stairs is Bishop Nikolas. He confirms Chester sucks and gives us a cross.
Take all three of these items to the chapel. On the floor is Elena's prized necklace. Something happened here, but there's only one exit. Place the three items into various bits around the keyboard, and Adol, a musician apparently, plays a song. It opens a path downward. The sewers are a bit more straightforward, and I felt some relief. The Battle Sword is found down here. The route to it is in the room before the warp point. Just get high.
East of the shrine is a locked door, so go north. There's a giant robot dog here, and this is a boss more about luck. It can only be harmed in the red pipe on its butt. The best attack to spam is the down stab. I say it's luck based because how often you can freely attack is based on what attacks it does. Its laser head spin is the best, but I ignored damage when he planted bombs on the field. Watch out for the missiles! And behind this are three people!
Elena is here, imprisoned by Chester. She's worried about him because of his revenge plot. Chester told her everything, and Elena doesn't care for any of it. But she's worried Chester "can't come back," which is a sentiment Chester said before stabbing Dogi. But if the plan goes through, Chester definitely can't come back. Elena urges us to stop her brother.
Bob, the not dead miner, is here, too. He overheard Chester's plan one day and was jailed for it.
Lastly, Andre, the castle guard, is here because he ran away from his "zombie coworkers." He hands Adol the key to the Clocktower, which is east of the last save point. And we'll play Castlevania...
...tomorrow!
If you kill 500 maids, you get an achievement.
