We should have started here.
Surlent's scenario starts in The Dragon God Ruins. Surlent is working for a researcher named Dr. Muench. The doctor discovered the relief tombstones nineteen years ago and called them the Lago Stones. This one, in particular, represents the lizard men who ruled 12000 years ago. The doc asks our main character about his master, Solon, but I'm not sure why. Regardless, Meunch wants to do more research on the Lago and its' jade, but we'll need to move it first. Doing so will release a lot of magic, so we'll need a relic to absorb it all. One such item is the Holy Grail, located in the Emiria Manor. This is where Foxy is from on Sion's path. Our ally, Legin, joins the group, and we head off.
While there, Dune and Cid show up and steal it while Emiria tries to hand the Grail to us. We try to give chase, but they're better than us. It suddenly begins to rain for the first time in weeks. We still want to find a way to move the Lagos Stone, but we'll need to find one. The doctor has moved to the Oriab's inn. He tells us to seek Solon in Thor's Volcano, which we'll need to find a boat to reach. Legin lives with his famous dad in the north of town, and he has a boat. Castagia hates his son, but let's Surlent use the boat. This scene is a bit off since Legin seems like a good guy. His gun does good damage and can be used from the back row for defense. His MP blows, but he's pretty useful. And he is working, so I don't know why his dad has a problem.
The rowboat takes us to Thor's Volcano, and I wonder what Riza's Norse reference will be. Speaking of whom, we see her cross a bridge in the Great Forest as we pass through. But that's for later. Thor's Volcano is filled with mobs weak to water, so use "aqu" spells. Surlent is a strong mage with a lot of MP, so use them as much magic with abandon. Tasty water is plentiful in this scenario. Towards the end, we'll learn Surlent can walk on certain lava tiles. You'll hear a sound to indicate we can travel, which is how you'll reach that one cheat. It contains a defensive mantra. In the back, though, is Solen. We'll see a quick flashback about Solen's dream for Surlent, but Legin breaks it up. We've got work to do! We learn about the netherworld portals before being told there's a receptacle in Horn Cave, which is across the Great Forest. We'll need to go there at night. Beside Solon is his right hand man, Sork. Solon orders him to join us, and we finally have a front line attacker.
We return to town, and Muench tells us to go after it. Before we can, everyone hears a scream. We look outside the window to see a swarm of blue butterflies fly across town. Just as they did for Sion, these butterflies clean the polluted air, letting the sun shine. The doctor tells us humans ruined the planet 2000 years ago for a war, and we've been backtracking ever since. He believes the insects are artificial, but there's no way to know. But why else would they be here now?
The Great Forest is filled with things weak to fire and lightning. There are no bosses, but there is a chest with 1200 gold in it. Horn Cave is even further north, and it's a maze. I accidentally found the correct way, so keep going north. We'll find a chest that contains a torn robe. Surlent knows it's what we want, though. It's also wearable! As we leave the room, Dune and Cid show up again to demand the robe. Legin demands the Holy Grail, and Dune actually agrees. But on one condition: he wants to see the receptacle. Surlent shows him the robe, and Dune and Cis bum rush us, running off with the Holy Robe. We failed.
Returning to Oriab has a strange sight. A child is being led through the streets by two toys, which we casually let pass. Three adults run towards us and claim we're with the cult. We convince them we're not and offer to save the kids. We've got no leads on the third relic, so why not? The doctor suggests heading to the city of Ompross. We meet Riza in the waiting room for the travel agency and learn she's looking for her mom. She was also born with a jew and didn't need to lose an eye like Sion. Dr. Meunch knew her mother and believes Cryunne should be her destination. We get on the ship and see the scene with Nurk from Surlent's point of view. We saw this from Sion's perspective last night. He gives us his boat, and we go to the Ruins of Fahl. The doctor told us to go there, but I've forgotten why. But I'll remember why...
.. tomorrow!
After you leave the Dragon God Ruins, the tower becomes a great place to level up. There's also a lizard blocking our path...
