The Vanished Lunar Whale

It's all flashbacks.

Porom's tale begins exactly where FFIV ended. Palom is talking himself up to the little girl by a river instead of attending classes with Elder Minwu. Porom scolds and drags him back, but Palom keeps not listening. He ends up storming out, so Porom has to go find him. She convinces her twin to come back by reminding him how Tellah was. Back at Minwu, Palom reminds the others in the room that he and his sister have gone on a great journey and grown a lot. Minwu agrees but also knows Palom is still too young. In time, Palom will be granted more freedom, but for now, he must obey his elders. This appeases the rebellious boy.

Several years later, the twins are on their way to Kaipo in the Damcyan desert. They're still considered children, but they're on a training mission. They take a pit stop in Kaipo to pay their respects to Tellah and Anna. Palom wants to be like Tallah, specifically to be a sage. Porom tries to inform him that that goal isn't as easy or short as he hopes. Palom needs to be a mage for the people the world over. It's not a title that can be taken. It has to be earned. It seems to work a little, but the visitation isn't long lasting. They quickly go north to the Underground Waterway.

This place is just as it ever has been. The battle party is two mages, so make use of Palom's -ra spells. Thunder and Blizzard, especially. You can also buy rods in Kaipo. The two make their way to the waterfall, where they're attacked by a fake Octomammarh, Cooler Mammoth. It's a similar fight, but the main body is weak to ice. I went after the magic spamming tentacle first and slowed everyone else down before leaving one arm left. Palom is ecstatic. Tellah had problems with this creature, but Palom killed it with relative ease. Porom realizes this entire trip was just to follow in his idle's footsteps. It was just to gloat. She is furious, but this section ends.

A few more years pass, and the twins are teenagers. Porom is waiting for her brother. They're supposed to go to Mist to see Rydia, but he's late. Cid shows up, so Porom decides to go alone after he hits on an underaged girl. But it turns out he was already on board. He snuck through the Devil's Road alone and set this thing up. The two argue, and it's clear they hate each other.

They arrive in Mist and inspect Rydia's mom's gravestone. But Rydia is in her house and is thrilled to see her young friends. It's a short reunion, as Palom asks to go to Feymarch. Shockingly, Rydia agrees. It confuses Porom, but the whole group heads to the Underworld. They stop by Gioitt's castle to say hi, and Luca, the valley girl aficionado, joins them. Palom isn't thrilled since it seems Luca has a crush on him.

The five of them go to the Cave to the Feymarch, and Cid and Luca hang back. The hurt floors are gone, so don't worry about Float. Three mages make this part more annoying than anything. They reach the bottom, but Rydia has second thoughts. She says the eidolons don't like humans and warns about the abnormal flow of time. Rydia asks the twins to stay back, which they do. They question why Rydia let them come, but the summoner returns quickly. Everything is fine! They return to Cid, who's taken Luca as an apprentice!

We finally reach the modern times, and Porom is alone in the Tower of Prayer. Minwu joins her just as the Lunar Whale rises out of the ocean and goes to the returned Moon. This scares everyone, so Minwu orders Porom to find Kain, who's rumored to be on Mt. Ordeals. Palom is on a separate mission to Troia, which made Porom jealous. Unlike her recluse of a brother, she's unsure of her role and job. To be twenty two again...

She's joined by two nameless and faceless mages. It's uneventful until they reach the top. They enter the room where Cecil became a paladin, but it's ruined. We learned Kain broke it in a battle against himself. But a strange voice calls out to her. It's Kluya, the man who brought magic to the Blue Planet. It's cryptic but warns her of the future. The team leaves and is quickly ambushed by nine zombies. Fortunately, Kain dispatches them. Porom relays the elder's message, but Kain isn't fazed. He has no allegiances to Baron anymore. But he is concerned about his friends, so he joins them.

Mysidia is being attacked. They came from the Devil's Road, which means Baron has fallen. The group finds Minwu, saves him, and brings him to bed. Everyone assumes the monsters want the crystals. Porom goes to get air, and she instantly sees the Rydia clone! As Minwu assumed, she wants the crystals. But she doesn't say why. Porom won't surrender it, and Minwu comes out for a battle. The Mysterious Girl doesn't do anything. She'll eventually fall forth Ramuh, which worries our pink haired white mage. He doesn't do anything, but Minwu eventually teleports Porom out of range before Ramuh Judgement Bolt's them. The battle ends, and Kain leaps onto the scene. It plays out as it did in Kain's story. And thus, Porom's story ends.

It wasn't very good. It seemed to simply be a vehicle for other people to shine. I can only hope her brother's story will be better. And her Challenge Dungeon was booty!
