Return of the Dragoon

There's a lot of jumping around, so expect me to get orders wrong. Unless...

The fabled dragoon, Kain Highwind, has moved to Mt. Ordeals. Rumors elsewhere indicate it's to atone in a similar way to Cecil. In fact, we see a scene where Kain tries to experience the Paladining in the same room. He loses to his mirror self, though. Something in the air stirs him, and it's time to leave the mountain. As he's about to, Kain hears a voice. He goes to find it to discover that it's from a girl who knows him. Porom from Mysidia (and her mage cohorts) have been ambushed by nine zombies. Kain easily dispatches them. Porom informs him why she's here, but we don't get to hear it. Instead, we jump ahead to the group in Mysidia. The girl who attacked Baron has also attacked Mysidia, and Kain is intrigued. He pulls out a crystal, which is what the girl is seeking. No clue where he got the crystal from... Kain is willing to hand over the crystal, but only if the girl allows him to meet Cecil. Kain wants to kill him. The girl agrees to his terms, and the two have trouble communicating as they walk through the Devil's Road.

They arrive in Baron, but Cecil's nowhere to be found. Instead, the girl pulls a Vader and altered the deal. If Kain wants Cecil, he needs to get the crystals from Fabul and Damcyan. With more annoyance than anything, Kain agrees. He takes an airship to Fabul, but we catch up to him at Damcyan.

Kain goes alone to confront Edward but hesitates when Ross pleads with him. Kain has been open about his intentions, but the woman he still loves causes him to reconsider. It's been sixteen years, Kain, get over her. Plenty of dragons in the sky, my dude!

Meanwhile...

Ceodore and George, who's left handed, are in Mist. George believes the mountain will prevent Baron from giving chase. After they see the gravestone of a certain summoner, who George offers a prayer to, they start to climb the vertical cliff. It's one of the only unique dungeons in TAY, so it's kinda cool. The going up part was easy, but Ceodore loses his footing going down and falls. He's fine when George reaches him, but it's clear that Ceodore needs some refinement in his knightly actions. As they return to sea level, they notice a new Red Wings airship sailing overhead to Damcyan. That can't be good.

Sadly, they can't take any shortcuts, so they walk through the desert to Kaipo and rest there the night. George is worried about desert fever. What's more concerning is Baron guards have found them. They're zombies, so Kain warns Ceodore not to go easy on them. Ceodore knows. They dispatch the zombie guards, see the gravestones of Tellah and Anna, and start their journey through the Underground Waterway. They spend the night there because chasing after an airship is easy. George overhears Ceodore asking for his mother in his sleep. They awaken and find the familiar Octo Kraken guarding its waterfall exit. Despite taking three days, the airship is still outside Damcyan.

Ceodore sees the Enterprise arrive on the scene as we cut back to Kain. Edward tries to stop the ever maddening Kain and even unleashes a Carnelian Signet in his own throne room. It does nothing, and Kain attacks him. Unless you try to lose, you'll win because Edward always sucks. As a bonus, Kain kidnaps Rosa and returns to Baron. Cid lands near the castle to investigate, and Ceodore and George arrive. Cid joins their group as an active participant, and Edward is a tag along as they chase after Kain.

We see Kain making his way through the castle, presumably to the girl and Cecil, as Ceodore has to fight his way through. They eventually catch up in the room Porom and Palom sacrificed themselves in, and Rosa gets confused. She calls George Kain? Then who's in the armor? George and Kain know each other, and George says he can accept him now. A flashback returns us to when Kain got beaten by himself. The mirror left the real Kain lying there and left. The armor is all of Kain's hatred and envy manifest, while George is real. Dark Kain is acting like this because Kain still loves Rosa.

But now's the time to get over everything? Kain fights himself and gets beaten again. Everyone tries to help him, but that just spurs him on more to solo this! He pulls out a spear and is ready to defeat his old self. The battle would have been pretty easy had I been leveling Kain up, but I know the future. Anyway, Kain eventually manages to win! The two Kains reform, but a new Kain is made. This is Holy Dragoon Kain! He's just like Kain but with Cecil's white magic abilities. Rosa picks up the three crystals, and the five of them head to confront the girl and the remains of Cecil. But that's someone else's story. A story we'll see...

...tomorrow!

But probably not, though. Maybe it's Porom's?
