Besaid and Zanarkand have rare treasure spheres, but there are other places to visit in Spira. So let's just redo Yuna's pilgrimage! ...1/5
The team is dropped off just outside of Besaid village. As we enter, Yuna tells the aether, similar to how Tidus retold "our" story, that she's worried. Yuna ran off without telling anyone, and she doesn't know how everyone will act with her randomly showing up now. Rikku reminds her, but then we hear a voice. It's Wakka! He's not mad, nor is he disappointed. He's just glad Yuna is okay. The topic quickly turns to Lulu and the impending birth of Wakka and Lu's child. Rikku remarks that Wakka's gotten fat, but he looks the same. It's almost as though the devs didn't want to make a new model. Wakka's more worried about being a father and how to act. Rikku tells him to just act like his dad, but Wakka never knew his dad. We get the first reminder that Sin once existed, and the scars of his actions are still showing. Yuna asks if there's any sphere of him, and Wakka tries to say no but stops abruptly. His demeanor changes, and he goes for a walk after telling us to see Lulu.
Lu's in a tent to the player's right, and Rikku remarks that she doesn't look pregnant. It's almost like the devs didn't want to make a new model... Anyway, the two catch up by going for a walk to the statue outside the city. The topic is about why Yuna left suddenly. Lulu thinks it might be because Yuna wanted to "spread her wings" without Lulu around. We don't get much more into this because the baby kicks. Rikku wants to feel it, so we all head back to the village and spend the night.
In the morning, everyone's already awake. We see Lulu outside the tent, and she tells us Wakka has left. Rumors of a cave near the shore have hit the village recently, and she thinks her husband has gone there. But for what? We now have to explore the town and talk to people who might know any clues about the cave. The gist is, we need to find four numbers located on the path to the docks, figure out their order, and input them into the cave entrance. Inside the cave is Wakka, just sitting there. He tells us there may or may not be something down here that he may or may not want. It's all very confusing, but the Gullwings go into the search for it. The cave is very short, but the encounter rate is pretty extensive. After a simple jump puzzle, we find another materia on a pedestal. Why are all these spheres displayed with such show? But behind it is a komodo dragon that breaths fire, so let's fight our first dragon!
The Fire Dragon breathes fire and is weak to ice. The Red Ring we got in Gagazet (and a chest in this cave) makes the breath attack moot, and Icebrand/Ice make short work of him. I broke his armor because Paine is just fem-Auron. After the battle, we take the sphere to Wakka. All we see are two chests located elsewhere on the island. You can get one now, but the other will have to wait until you get 900000 gil... On our way back to the village, Wakka tells us he was there because of something Chappu told him after they had a fight. Chappu said he found a sphere of their parents, but he refused to tell his brother. Wakka never asked out of pride, and he eventually forgot about it. Chappu's death was a major backstory point for three characters in FFX, so that information was taken to his grave. A part of Wakka is glad Chappu's old hangout was empty because Wakka's had this image of his parents in his mind, and he's worried the truth might upset that. It's a bit strange, but it makes some sense. Regardless, our mission on Besaid is complete, and we get the white mage dress sphere! Should we return, we learn about the secret passage in the cave and how to reach it.
We should go to Zanarkand now, but there's so much more stuff to do! I'll be visiting every location four or five times in this playthrough, so my next stop is Killika. Yuna warns us that the village has changed a lot in the last two years, and she's right. It's been rebuilt and is quite the booming dock town. There's nothing here except a few items and some shadow of things to come. The point in Kilika is there's a bit of contention between the villagers. Since Sin left, Spira has been split into two factions. The Young League, who helped rebuild Kilika, and New Yevon, a mystery right now. Even families have been divided, as we see when we meet Dona and Barthello. Bart gets kicked out of his house, and he runs off screaming because he loves Dona so much. The gate to the temple is blocked, so we have to turn back.
Next up is Luca! We're dropped off on the stairs next to the Highroad, and Yuna gets swarmed by fans. Everyone tells her how great her concert was, even if it wasn't her concert. We now have to relive the day of that event! While Rikku and Paine were doing their thing, Yuna was hiding as a moogle because Brother ordered her to. She had to hand out ten balloons in the town square, which gets us a new garment grid. When Rikku "Y. R. P."ed, Yuna made her way to the stadium. The guards turned into Leblanc goons, so she tried to help however she could. It was just by being that moogle that could heal Rikku on dock two... She wasted ammo before her appearance because she was so excited to get out of that suit. The rest, as they say, is history! Return to Luca for a few items, a new grid, and a introduction to Sphere Break, but we'll make more history...
...tomorrow!
I might be here a while, won't I? I don't think EVERY location has a long mission, but I want everything. I need the grids, the garments, and the accessories. And, ya know, new job abilities!
