We start tonight on the Queen’s Fury but quickly dock at the City of Water, Furni. We’ve officially landed in Millie Seseou. Furni is a city that sucks to navigate since large portions of the city are only reached via boat. The weapons shop and exit are two such places, and we don’t have a way to access them. How do tourists travel? As we wander around, we come to a town meeting filled with many warriors. The Knight Captain promises a large bounty to whoever brings down the feral wolf, Kamuy, located in the Evergreen Forest. We decline to get involved, seeing as Lloyd is our primary target. As we walk into the inn, the keeper asks if we’re hunting the wolf. If we say yes, as I did, he says we’re "shady" and tells us to talk to the mayor. The mayor is only reachable by boat... If we say no, he’ll do some thinking and conclude we’re the heroes who felled the Sea Monster, which helped this region as well since they’re across the bay. He gives us a boat and tells us to talk to the mayor.
The mayor fills us in on the going-ons of Furni. Kamuy, the wolf mentioned earlier, was once the pet of a boy named Teo. Teo is/was friends with the mayor’s daughter, Fa, until the wolf bit her and ran away. There was no lasting physical damage, but the shock made the girl mute. Fa takes a liking to Shana, so the mayor asks us to stay the night. Shana and Fa go to sleep together, and Shana hums a lullaby to get her to fall asleep. Haschel recognizes the song as the song his daughter once sung. It’s a song that Dart taught Shana when they were little. Haschel believes he is connected to Dart but doesn’t say it. He does tell Shana that Dart has been on the roof for a while. Shana heads up there with Meru sneaking behind for some reason. The two talk about the Moon That Never Sets and their childhood until Shana faints, and Dart puts her in bed.
In the morning, she wakes up a-okay, and the group sets off to Deningrad, the capital of Millie Seseou. To reach the city, we have to trek through the Evergreen Forest. It’s a quick walk, but two of our party members decide there are other things they need to do. Rose says she has errands to run nearby and, in a move that would make The Foz smile, slyly slides down a cliff and leaves. Everyone says how mysterious she is. Meru tries to sneak away but is quickly spotted and says she’s going to go see her parents. The party gives her their best, and they separate.
The remaining party heads to the Crystal Castle of Deningrad. The door is guarded by a guard who says no one is allowed in. There's a secret ceremony taking place. Instead of meeting whoever's in charge, we walk into the nearby church, headed by the well respected Bishop Dillie. He tells us the Creation Myth of the Devine Tree. Soa, who I think was the god Rose mentioned that I never wrote down, planted a tree in the barren landscape of the planet. From that tree came 108 fruit. Those fruit were the species that walk/ed the planet today. Afterwards, he tells us to go to Millie Seseou National Library. Albert nerds all over the place at this idea.
The door is locked, so we head back into the church and find Librarian Ute. He’s a bit stuck-up but allows us entry after a quick squabble with Haschel. Ute is the primer expert on the Dragon Campaign and tells us s about the story of the Moon That Never Sets, The Moon Child, and Black Monster. It’s what we already know, but we learn the Moon Child is the herald of the gods who is to prepare humans for their accession. The Black Monster is inferred to be the god of destruction, or something, as its purpose is to slay the Moon Child. I think there are some further implications that the gods live on the Moon. When Ute learns that Dart is a survivor of Neet, a village in Millie, he expresses his shock and reverence. He then tells us about another survivor named Luanna, one of the sacred sisters, who also survived. Millie Seseou is a matriarchy led by a Queen, Theresa, and a council of several other women.
We then cut to Rose in Neet, who expresses that nothing has changed. I wonder why she never told Dart she’s been here? While there, we see Sister Luanna at the gravestone of her mother who died protecting her the night the Black Monster appeared. She was blinded that night but possesses the ability to see into people's souls and heal them. She tells us her memory of that night when the Monster came looking for Princess Louvia, who was the baby on the Phantom Ship. Everyone returns to Deningrad.
We cut again, this time to Meru. She meets a man she knows named Guaraha. He flies over to her, revealing that both of them are Winglies. Guaraha stops her from entering, reminding her she left the village and isn’t allowed back-in. It's taboo to leave the forest, so if you do, you're now an outcast. She manages to convince her way in and meets the Ancestor, the leader of the Winglies. While inside, we learn Winglies take banishment pretty seriously, and she gets re-banished. Even her parents turn their backs on her. The Ancestor reveals that the seals on the Divine Dragon are weakened, and the Dragon Buster has been stolen. We know about the Buster, but what's this secret Seven Winged/Eye Dragon? He reminds Meru that humans are Winglies have never really ended the war, and there’s still animosity between the two. As Meru leaves, Guaraha pretty much tells Meru he loves her and wants to spend time with her. Fortunately for us, she’s dedicated to saving the world and being a Dragoon. This makes me wonder something: Dragoons were created to fight Winglies. Is it weird that one of them now is a Dragoon? There’s a CGI cutscene where the dragon’s chains break. I’m sure it’s nothing
We return to Dart, who prepares to leave the city. As they do, Rose and Luanna return to regal them of their story. During the story, the wind howls and the earth shakes as a large shadow makes it's presence felt. The Divine Dragon flies overhead and blows a lot of wind about. This causes a massive uproar in the city, but there is no real damage. Meru returns and fills the party in on what happened with information about the dragon. No one asks how she knows. Lianna then asks us to talk to Queen Theresa in the palace.
We walk up the stairwell and meet Miranda, The First Sacred Sister, who has a take-no-lip attitude. The party then fills Theresa in on what happened, and she tells us more about the Dragon and formulates a way to stop it. We need the Dragon Block staff that the Winglies have. Due to the impending doom, we set off immediately. As we go back down, we notice that Shana is missing. Climbing back up the stairs, we see Shana kneeling, semi-conscious, in some alter location that has ties to when Deningrad wae a Wingly city. And then something interesting happens...
The White Dragoon gem rejects Shana. Instead, it transfers itself to Miranda. Shana is fine but opts to stay in the palace while we go about finding the staff. It’s oddly not impactful yet, but things are about to change.
And we’ll find out how big that change is tomorrow!
Games don’t usually break-up the leading couple in love like this. Is Shana gonna stay with the party? I remembered Miranda, but I don’t recall what happens to Shana in my playtime from 10 years ago. I also remembered it being different than this, so it’s nice my broken memory is more broken than I remembered. Miranda seems stronger than Shana, at least in the HP department, but it might just be my sketch empirical data. I’m curious how the rest of the game goes with this new White Dragoon!
