While on the Queen’s Fury, we have the chance to catch-up with our teammates. We end up playing as everyone, but when not the target character, they all say the same thing. We start by playing Shana, who’s looking for Dart.
Kongol is alone in the hold being asocial.
Meru is in the bunks, complaining about being bored, and challenges Shana to a pillow fight.
Albert is in a fancy room, being romantic about the sea and comparing it to love. I wonder if he’s supposed to marry Emilie?
Haschel is meditating.
Rose is being contemplative in the ship’s crows nest.
Dart is in silence in the cabin, thinking about the journey, Lloyd, and the Black Monster.
Shana thinks of Dart when not being played.
After Shana finds Dart, she pretty much confesses her love before running off.
Dart then goes to look for Rose, as she seems to be the Auron of LoD, and she explains how Dragoons work. They're powered by the humans want of war, despite war not being natural to man, and feeds on the insanity that comes from it. This explains why Shana couldn't transform when saving Princess Emilie.
Rose goes looking for Haschel. We end up seeing a flashback of him training Clare and a man named Letty in martial arts. He pushes her too hard, and, out of anger, Clare kills her opponent and runs off. Haschel feels responsible and thinks himself a terrible father. As a note, if you talk to Shana, we get the impression that Shana sees Rose as a big sister and rival.
Haschel goes to pick on Kongol but doesn’t as he ends up introducing the giant to the idea of friends.
Kongol talks to Albert, "The Human King", who says they’re friends because they walk the same path with similar goals: peace for all races.
Albert talks to Meru because he too is bored of thinking about the sea. He gets a pillow thrown at him.
Meru wants to hang out with Dart because she’s thirsty. She awakens him from his brain fog, and they end up going to see Rose. I wish I hadn’t gone straight there because I wanted to see the antics with other people. Instead, a CGI scene happens where a ghost ship, in the dead of night, comes from a storm and rams the Queen’s Fury. We are now introduced to tonight’s dungeon: The Phantom Ship. Rose seems to recognize it...
The ram knocked out the Queen’s engine, despite it being the only steel ship in the world, while the opponent is an old, decayed wooden ship. Not only that, but Shana is missing. Dart hears a scream and runs onto the ghost ship, quickly finding Shana under attack from skeletons. Before Dart can unsheathe his blade, two ghost knights show up and do away with the undead first. The group wants to know who those knights were and why the ship exists to start with.
The Phantom Ship has several interesting mechanics. Most notably, there are no random encounters. To initiate combat, Dart runs into one of the blue glowing spirits. The second is Shana cannot die. Despite being a terrible character in battle, when she goes down, she will instantly be revived. It isn’t 100%, but it’s reasonably reliable. I felt like she’d be important, so I replaced Meru. There’s also a tedious, though rewarding, treasure chest mini-game. In the third room below deck, there a button that activates four sailors who tell us four random numbers. Take those numbers to a chest on floor one, next to the Fury, and input the correct code into it. The thing is, the code is random, and you have a limited number of tries. There's no dependable way of knowing how close you were to the correct code, though. I would never do this under normal circumstances, but an emulator makes it bearable. I’m a save scummer; fight me. Anyway, after you put in the code, you have to start over again. On the fifth success, you gain the Ultimate Wargod, an accessory that makes your Additions a guaranteed success. It’s a luxury item, but great when you want to grind hard Additions, which we're getting into now.
The way to progress is to open several treasure chests located through the ship. In them is a mob named Magician Bogey. After the second fight, where we slay three of them, another spirit tells us to come to the Captain’s Quarters. There, he asks us to put his men to rest and gives us a key. Before using the key, the knights begin to attack us or, more specifically, Rose. They infer the Black Monster attacked, and that’s why they all died. They also remain resolute in protecting the princess. Albert reminds us of the story of the Moon That Never Sets, The Moon Child, and the Black Monster that follows it. But why are they confusing Rose for the Monster? Using the key takes us to another room where we're attacked by the Ghost Commander.
There’s the boss, Commander, and four undead seconds. The small fries can’t die but become inert with ease. You can buy White Elements on the Fury, so I bought a lot of them and spammed them. Physical attacks are great, but they're only single target. Shana used her second level Dragoon magic and finished the battle.
Afterwards, a new door opens into a nursery. As we walk up to a crib, a final ghost nanny tells us that 18 years ago, The Black Monster attacked, killing everyone on board, including Princess Louvia of Millie Seasou. Before accepting her death, she sees Shana and is filled with ease, saying their actions were not in vain and the princess lives. Why did she confuse Shana with a dead baby? The ship begins to sink as we learn the Fury is fully operational. Everyone manages to make the jump back but Dart. Rose is able to keep him from falling into the sea, saying she won’t drop him this time. Unfortunately, she can’t keep that promise but does plummet with him.
We cut to the two alone in a cave, with Dart unconscious and Rose romantically holding him. She says Dart reminds her of a man named Zieg and reveals she’s 11000 years old! So that’s how she knows everything about the Dragon Campaign. We then cut to a beautiful CGI scene where all the Dragoons are in a battle with Virage and someone Melbu Frama. It’s not looking good for the Dragoons, as many of them are about dead. Not-Kongol is holding up an entire city, alone, and bleeding heavily. I believe it is Shirley next to him but gets blasted by a bright light. Zieg ends up getting turned to stone before Rose’s eyes, as she can do nothing about it. It’s poorly voice acted, but incredibly interesting nonetheless. Rose wakes up to a dog and a boy who finds the two of them and takes them back to the village. After nursing Dart to health, he and Rose go to leave the village of Lidiera. As they do, the kid, Pete, asks if they can escort them to the nearby city to help his sick mom. There're monsters along the way, and they can't take a boat because a Sea Monster inhabits the waters. Being the hero he is, Dart agrees.
It’s just gonna be Dart and Rose tomorrow as they try to reunite with their friends!
So much stuff happened! Rose’s backstory is crazy. I kinda wish we didn’t know it, though, since none of the other characters do. There’s much less oomph to that reveal now. Who really is Shana? I assume the parents we met are her real parents, right? There’s no way she can be the princess of Millie Seasou. The timing works out, though, as she’s 18 and born the same year the ship was attacked. And why was Rose confused for the Black Monster? 11000 years old!? I ended up grinding a lot tonight, so that’s why I barely did much. It might be for the best too. So much plot!
