Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
Now, here's the thing, TAY is usually referenced because most players think it sucks. They're not wrong, but TAY isn't all bad. I'm always down to experience the alleged happily ever after in a game. And the music of FFIV is top tier, and I want more of it. Yes, it's repetitive, and the encounter rate is too high. Maybe more new dungeons and music would have helped to keep it from being a slog, and they should have made the new characters worthwhile, but I actually enjoyed the game.
But only because I didn't hesitate to cheat. I cheated to reach the level cap as soon as I got bored and had the rare items chest active at all times. There are significantly worse games to waste your time on than FFIV: The After Years. That being said, I'm ready to move on and want to make this review quick.
Plot: much of the same. It's the same characters we know and love from 1991. Not much has changed. The new characters don't bring much to the table outside the kingdom heirs. But they could have done so much more. Is Kain still into Rosa? Why not give Golbez his redemption? But the things that happened before mean something. At least the bosses are a lot more interesting than Zemus. 7/10
Gameplay: much of the same. FFIV didn't have mini games, and its sequel doesn't either. Nothing new was added besides the band system, which I kept forgetting existed. What they did with enemy spawns killed any semblance of dungeon design its predecessor might have had. There's a reason so many people called the game repetitive. Also, the moon phase system slowed the game down. 4/10
Music: much of the same. Every song is in the same place as before. They added a few new ones, but those only play at the end. But I love me some Overworld. 10/10
Art: you know. See above. 8/10
Charm: see above. I enjoyed the call back to previous Final Fantasies, though 7/10
Negatives: tedium. With the high encounter rate and a battle system that hasn't evolved since before QoL adjustments existed, the constant retreading of dungeons (looking at your Ed), and the excessively long final dungeon, this game feels too tedious unless you cheat through it. -5
Final score: 31/50
If you love Final Fantasy IV, you'll get a kick out of The After Years. It's the same philosophy that X-2 had, so go look at what I posted there. I think I enjoyed my time here, but I'm unsure. I'm pretty sure I'm glad I played it at least. It didn't make me hate IV, so I'll take it.

Planet Eater
"Floor" one is based on FFI. The crystals spawn the Four Fiends. Before the battle, our characters give lame, generic observations based on their confusion. They do after as well.
"Floor" two is, I think, from FFII. But those guys are kinda generic, and I don't recall seeing them. The only interesting character note is Ursula starts to question if her martial arts can defend against demons.
The third section is against the Dark Crystal bosses from FFIII. Ursula starts to realize she's doing just fine.
I skipped much of the fourth section because I needed a save point. Omega is an optional boss here, and I wanted to kill him. Even after cheating to get to max level, he still pushed me to my limits. Gilgamesh was guarding the rest point, and he's still into Bartz.
Character interactions leaned into the Harveys.
Cecil thanks his brother for helping to bring him back from the soul destroying void he was being sucked into.
Kain feels uneasy about being around Golbez, but Kain knows his former brainwasher is trying to change.
Cecil and Kain had a good heart-to-heart. Kain missed Baron and wanted to come home, and Cecil asked how Ceodore is. Kain sees promise in the boy.
Kain spoke to Ceodore about being the son of two heroes. He mentioned his own upbringing and his strict father, who died when Kain was Ceo's age. It helped the boy, and Rosa, watching from afar, thanked Kain.
Being at max level, I opted to change my party up. Ceodore is the main character, so I threw him up front. I miss Cecil's Cover and HP, but his son has more white magic utility. I wonder if there are augments in the 3D version? I also switched out Rosa for Porom. I don't know why... To change it up, I guess?
I'm on floor fourteen, so I'm nearly halfway to the bottom!
After cleansing not Shuyin, the Nova Dragon, and then killing Atomos, we stepped onto section four. It looked much like the rest of the game, including the mobs, but it was FFVI theme. Ultros was still sexist, Ultima Weapon dropped the best sword in the game, and I hunted down Deathgaze. Finding his hidden crystal lets a Mysidia adjacent mage learn Duelcast. Obviously, I let Porom learn it because I'm using her. By this point, I noticed Ceodore growing on me. Cover would be rad, but he has some great utility. His white mage pool lacks Curaja, but he has important spells Cecil doesn't. Protect, Shell, Haste, and Curaga go a long way. And his stats are actually pretty good with the right gear. I still think Rosa is better than Porom, but Duelcast is making me think otherwise.
The only character interaction I recall is when Edward brought a giant potted plant with us. It's the Whisperweed, and he can communicate with the Damcyan chancellor. Things are really bad down there, and the team realizes that if they can talk to the planet, the moon has gotten really close. We're running out of time!
On floor twenty is a Mysterious Girl. She's sick of our crap and summons Bahamut. We beat him up, and Ashura and Leviathan help. They get Megaflared for their troubles, but they'll be fine. Their sacrifice worked, and god returned to his senses and Megaflared his caller before joining us again.
The final portions of the moon are quick and straightforward. A winding but single hallway brings to more advanced areas. Inside that steel area are all the crystals. The party picks up the eight they know, but there are four they don't recognize and leave there. And beyond that is a room filled with all the Mysteries Girls! There is a smaller one who activates when Rydia draws near. The girl asks Rydia what her orders are, so Rydia says, "Stay here and be a good girl." She does. The passage opens now. We've finally reached the bottom of this nonsense, and our target is before us. It's an egg. This is a five part battle, where we have to break open a mechanical egg. It turns into a soggy dog, a sexy white blotch, and an albino Kefka cosplayer on a budget.
Between all of that, we learn that this is the Creator. They came from another planet that their people destroyed in an attempt to study how evolution works. They did this by making the crystals to watch over the Blue Planet. They sent the maenids, the Mysterious Girls, to retrieve them. But the Creator has appeared now because they're disappointed with our slow evolution. Being the last of their kind makes them impatient, I guess. Anyway, we beat him up. The final battle feels a lot like Zeromus, especially with the Big Bangs and the need to use a crystal to damage him. More importantly, they kick out butt first.
As our bodies lay dying, the spirits of all our favorite NPCs save us again. Ceodore gets Grandma Farrell, Porom gets the Mysidians, Ursula has Shiela, Rydia is loved by the kids in Mist, and Kain is revived by Cecil's dad. Okay... Their love, combined with the strength of our throwaway members, revive the crystals and our party, letting us end this game! Popping that crystal made the Creator want to die, so I'm confused.
As expected, the Creator is a load bearing boss, and his ship starts to shake. We need to move. Occasionally, the Creator will back attack us, but the remaining Mysterious Girls have turned against him. Once we return to the baby maenid, they recognize their future is in her and that their father is abusive. But their intervention finally ends the Creator, and we escape, skipping the last twenty floors.
The camera cuts to the planet, and we see the shadows beginning to fade. The gross orange-brown is gone, and the astronomers see the Creator moon skip away.
Leonora has returned to Troia and is ready to become an epopt. The disguised Izaya is beside her. But something happens...
Palom is next to the crystal in Mysidia, and Porom walks in. The elder wants to speak to him. Minwu asks the black mage if he wants to be a sage, but, shockingly, he's decided to stay and aid Mysidia! He's still disrespectful to Minwu, but he doesn't mind. A guest has arrived, though...
It's Leonora! She doesn't want to be an epopt anymore and is here to become a sage. Both mages are excited to reach her. The froggy Tsukinawa is glad.
Luca is beside her crystal, along with Giott. He doesn't understand anything but has accepted that. Dwarfs aren't supposed to be deep thinkers! A young human boy runs in, and it's Mid, Cid's grandson. He's wanted to hang out with Luca, so the Pallendia family went to hell. Luca shows them her Falcon, and Mid helps to upgrade it. The future looks bright! Zengetsu still doesn't understand how to dwarf.
Yang is still training Urusla. Gekkou is also there.
Edward is pondering his nation's crystal with Harley. He thinks his is different and has evolved alongside his nation. But this ends as the chancellor informs a special material has been gathered. Edward calls out to Tellah and Anna, and their ghosts now haunt the castle.
Edge is on patrol, and his ninja students arrive with all the good news. He unofficially fires them as we're in a time of peace. Edge walks off.
The baby maenid we found on the moon is living in Mist. The other children are trying to teach her how to be a kid, and she's doing her best. Ashura and Leviathan pop in and want to see Rydia. The royals think that just because Rydia can't visit the Feymarch doesn't mean they can vacation here. Edge arrives, and Corue, the baby maenid, runs up to him. She wants to play, and Edge agrees.
Cecil gets beaten up by Ceodore, but Kain breaks it up. Kain's the new leader of the Red Wings and Ceo's CO. It's time for a mission. Rosa asks Cecil about "him." She means Golbez.
The Barons are leaving KluYa's house, and Golbez wants to return to the Luanarian Moon. He believes FuSoYa is still alive and wants to find him. After Ceodore promises to meet him again, Golbez takes the Lunar Whale home or to whatever is left of it.
Kain and Ceodore climb aboard a deweaponized Red Wing ship. Kain has to lecture Ceodore about something and brings up Biggs and Wedge, whose spirits appear behind him. It's a rebuilding mission with Damcyan using the new material they have. The circle of time competes as three Baron Red Wings take to the sky, just as They were in 1991.
The credits role, as we see the sprites of our teammates appear on a stage. And with that, we save our clear data and return to the main menu.
The End.

True Moon
Cecil is in a black void. He recalls all that he's seen since the Mysterious Girl appeared. But we get his true thoughts. He recognizes Kain and Edward. He's concerned about his family before him. And then he transforms back into his Dark Knight self... Where is he now?
The Lunar Whale has been redesigned somehow. Cecil is alone in the sleeping pods room, but there's only a single bed now. Everyone in Baron is beside him. They're thrilled he's ambulatory, but his eyes are dead. Cecil is now a shell of himself. And his stats prove it! We don't have much time to ponder this because the Moon keeps getting closer! The entire planet starts to shake, and the gravity of the new satellite drags us to it. Are we being summoned? Ceodore wakes up first to remind us that he's the MC here. We cannot return to the planet, but we've arrived at the final dungeon (part one). We can make our team from all the characters we've picked up. I somehow missed Calca and Brina, but I got a hunch they're not important or worthwhile. Ceodore takes his mom, best friend, fellow heir, and sexy summoner into the Lunar Subterrain.
It's called that because it's a mirrored replica of Zemus' house. It's surprisingly tricky and annoying. All the good/guarded treasures are gone, but there's still plenty to be found. The EXP really sucks, though. Navigation is aided by the occasional telepad, which takes you back to the Lunar Whale. You can also change party members, and the elevators are usually near a save point. At these save points are the whole reason I wanted to replay this game. The entire party spends the night, and a scene plays out. I don't remember all of them...
Ceodore and Ursula have a relationship that's deeper than we've seen. It's nothing that implies romance, but they do know each other. Ursula is curious how much Ceodore has grown through all this. She compares Ceo to her father, and they magically learn a new band.
Edge talks to his students. He's mad they're not defending the kingdom but glad they're loyal anyway.
Rydia is talking to Luca about something. Dwarven stubbornness is involved.
Leonore is pondering her life until Porom asks her about Palom. Luca quickly joins them, and she doesn't mingle words. She asks if Leonore loves Palom. Leo just repeats that he's her teacher but eventually admits she does. Luca seems appeased. Palom was watching on, and he's confused.
Luca and Cid both realize that this Moon is a manufactured ship.
Yang and Ursula have a discussion.
This dungeon is more proof that time is a circle because there are a lot of bosses on every other floor. Each section has several crystals that house a boss from the previous game, and they all function the same as then. So far, we've rekilled Baigan, the Magus Sisters, Dr. Lugae and Barnabas, Edge's parents, and the Four Archfiends. All but the doctor wants to die, and they all thank us for killing them. Before and after the battle, the team comments on what they see and have redone. Rydia and Rosa tend to say how terrible MG is for using the souls of the dead for her wishes. Ceodore has a crush on Barbareccia. If you bring Edge against Rubicante, you can duel him for his cloak.
But I'm halfway through this nonsense, so I'll skim the second bit...
...
...right now!
Golbez and Ceodore have a mildly awkward family reunion. Ceo is Golbez' nephew, but they've only just now met under rather auspicious circumstances.
But the Lunar Subterrain changed into color and elemental themed caves, but we're suddenly in a technological room. CPU is the boss here, and everyone is shocked that this could be revived. Was the Giant of Babil alive?
Beyond that is a cave that resembles the march to the Feymarch. There are also two buildings there that fit in as well. And on each one are Leviathan or Ashura. So make sure you bring Rydia with you. The battles function like Ifrit did, so go all out. Whoever you collect first will aid you in the other.
We'll arrive at the Lunar Core next. Grey crystals line our path. Activate the dimensional elevator next to the save point, as it also activates ???. This takes you to the Tail Collector and a new Namingway. I didn't get any worthwhile tails (despite cheating), but I have gotten seven pieces of adamantium. I traded them for three shields, which can be equipped by everyone, including Rydia and Rosa. They also up stats to go along with the defensive buffs. I hope I can get another piece. Save and sally forth!
Dark Knight Cecil is on a throne, and this segment can go several ways. I brought Kain, Rosa, Golbez, Ceodore, and Cecil here. Cecil is showing emotions, but they're of pain. His evil counterpart threatens us, claiming he's the real Cecil, so he attacks us. He's really pathetic, but it's a scripted fight. At one point, he'll bring us all to one HP. Our Cecil starts to move and covers for his teammates. DKCecil then decides to begin casting Black Fang, an instant death move. Golbez eats the one intended for Cecil. This could permanently kill Golbez! Fortunately, I had a Rosa to revive him. Rosa and Golbez renew the battle for a bit before Ceodore meets some old friends. The ghosts of Biggs and Wedge appear to him to remain the Baron heir who he is. This inspires the kid to get back to his feet and join his family. Paladin Cecil starts to stir, and DKC takes notice. But the voices of his friends and family have finally reached him at the best time. PC reminds DKC that he's not needed anymore. DKC is a symptom of loneliness, something friends and family easily overcome! This battle is now just a speed bump.
Cecil thanks everyone, who then thanks everyone else. He and Kain have a brief moment of content. But Cecil will now be a worthwhile party member, so farewell Ceodore. I wish you were better... DKC dropped Excalibur for some reason, so pick it up, and the path forward opens. The Mysterious Girl joins for a moment to threaten the team, but nothing of note happens. She welcomed them to come to their deaths and opened the path to the final dungeon/chapter, the Depths. And I'll finish this...
...tomorrow!
Probably not, though. It's a hella long drag filled with the same things we've been dealing with.

Moon's Gravity
We're just after Edge falls onto Luca's Falcon. He wants to know who the Man in Black is. Golbez will remain with that moniker for a while. There can be no answer as something more pressing happens. The camera cuts to the planetarium in Agart. The astronomer sees that the moon is attacking the planet. Hundreds of meteors fall onto Blue, and it leaves the land scarred. And then the moon moves closer to the planet... Edge, Luca, Golbez, and Rydia return to the surface. They need to see Cecil.
They land outside Baron, but there's a strange pink aura in the air. This is, apparently, bad, and the team can't enter the castle. They'll have to find a different way in. We investigate the town and talk to Grandma Farrell and Cid's daughter. They're of no help. But the Falcon can finally be controlled! With nowhere else to go, I'm off to find my friends.
I opt to take the same journey Cecil did, so I stop by Mist first. It's unaffected, but there's a strong mist surrounding the town. A voice calls out to Rydia and tells her to save the eidolons and return. Rydia's mom?
Next stop is Kaipo. The Sylphs are attacking the village, but they're surprisingly chill. Inside the house where all the sick people end up are Yang and Ursula. The attack by Leviathan resulted in them being washed ashore, and Yang dragged his daughter here. The inhabitants have accepted their house is a hospital now. The two monks are asleep and unresponsive, so there's nothing more we can do.
Edward isn't in his castle, but Harley is. As are rampaging antlions. Rydia asks Edge not to kill them because they're innocent, so don't talk to them. Harley wants to come along and find her boss/King/crush, but Edge knows she sucks. But the Damcyan chancellor requests she come along. She'll stay in the Falcon.
More Sylphs are attacking Fabul. You can get into a battle with them, and Rydia keeps talking about pacifism. Shiela gives us the trusty pan and the new standard, the ladle. I've driven this road, so it's back to Kaipo. Edge smacks Yang, who returns to his senses. He asks Rydia to hit Ursula, who obliges. They're awake but still weak, so they can hang out in the ship with Harley and the four ninjas. This also causes the Sylphs to regain their senses because all they wanted was Yang. Bunch of lonely fairies...
Ramuh is still attacking Mysidia, and there's a tough choice here. We can kill the lightning god, but that prevents him from joining us, and Rydia gets sad. Instead, weaken him until Rydia calls out to him. After a moment, Ramuh will return to his senses. Inside the main building is a relieved Porom. She promptly collapses out of exhaustion. I think she had a barrier to protect the elder. She joins the others on the ship.
Next up is Troia. It's frozen! Right, Shiva. Lodestone Cavern is where Palom was last seen, so we head there. They are also frozen. Shiva attacks, but I don't think she can be killed. Maybe I got lucky, but I didn't Ramuh myself. Palom introduces Leonora, Luca gets jealous, and then the black mage collapses. They join the others.
Titan is still attacking Agart. He'll be a random battle.
Eblan is on fire because Ifrit is still around. Find the magma golems in the towers and then speak to the seneschal. Ifrit's attacks become wilder, and Edge asks everyone to escape while he draws him away. He's promptly beaten, so Rydia saves him. The band they learn isn't great here, but it does something plotwise. "Fight fire with fire." Anyway, Ifrit joins. The moon grows larger...
That's everyone, apparently, so it's back to Mist. The mist clears, and the mayor comes out to talk to us. He says the Mist Dragon has been kept alive and sane by the children of the village. They may not be full fledged summoners, but there's a spark. Rydia regains her mom! Despite not finding a way to Baron, we're going back! The air is clear now...
While we did all that...
Kain, Ceodore, Rosa, Edward, and Cid confront Cecil and MG. Everyone tries to plead with Cecil, but his mind is gone, and he's sided with Rydia's doppelgänger. Kain even tries to battle his friend, but Cecil is too strong. Cecil then tries to get his son to join him, appealing to that familiarity, but Ceodore knows this isn't his real dad. Not even Rosa can reach him. The five attack him, but it doesn't work. This took place over about four days because...
Rydia's group finally reaches the throne room! Golbez calls out to his brother, finally introducing himself, and that does something. Cecil collapses, so it turns out he was just brainwashed. Rydia and Edge join Rosa, Ceodore, and Cid in a battle against MG. It goes on for a while... She says that this planet isn't necessary anymore and plans to wipe it out. She remembers Golbez, and her two twins pop in. All three teleport away because we're not worth it! Everyone wants to reach this new moon, which isn't the Lunarian Moon, but how? Golbez summons the Lunar Whale, so we'll see where that takes us...
...tomorrow!
Did Edward get attacked by Leviathan? When did Rosa show up? Maybe these aren't important questions? Let's get ready for an awful final dungeon!

The Blue Planet that Was
We begin in a battle. We're playing as Golbez against Cecil, who promptly kicks our butt. Fortunately, it was a dream. The Man in Black who was with Rydia was actually Golbez! He's in a sleep pod surrounded by people who resemble the Mysterious Girl. FoSuYa is supposed to be in as well, but he's gone. Golbez decides to get some moon air and walks into the room we beat Zemus in. He continues through the Lunar Subterranean, but it's mostly peaceful. Occasionally, he senses something bad happening on the surface, and monsters attack him. This continues until he reaches the Crystal Palace and sees the crystals are blood red. FuSuYa enters, and he's also picking up on bad vibes, so the two men go on a lunar expedition!
The surface is changed, so it sucks to walk around on. It's a maze, and you have no clue where you're going. Eventually, I found an impact creator. A meteor landed to the south of everything, and it's almost a direct copy of Yang's side of the Earth's meteor. There's even a Rydia doppelgänger! The three try to get information from each other, but everyone is cagey, so they fight. Unlike previous battles, we actually have to beat MG. She summons Ashura, to the men's surprise, and she provides support to her caller. Haste up and spam magic, but be on the lookout for a repeating theme in this chapter. Fu has no goddamn MP!!!
MG dies, and the boyz want to check on Bahamut. We stumble our way to his lair and have to deal with the nonsense of super Malboros. This chapter blows. But the eidolon god is, just as everyone else, petrified. Fu believes he isn't stoned. His body and soul are trapped in another dimension. They're worried and want to return to the palace.
Much to their shock, MG is waiting. She was following them in hopes she'd find the crystals she was looking for. We have to fight her again, and she calls Leviathan this time. He's a bit more offensive, but the strategy is the same. Yet another MG teleports in, and one of the crystals shatters! Somehow, she's feeding off the crystals and wants what's at the lunar core. They try to pray for the Lunar Whale, but that stuff takes time. In the meantime, the guys give chase through the final dungeon of the FFIV, and we see the crystals breaking as we descend. We'll reach the final room, and all hope is lost. With all the chaos, Zemus is reincarnated, and Golbez and FuSuYa, after hearing KluYa's voice, have to engage him. They learn a band technique I spam and win after using all my dry ethers on the blobman. But Zemus isn't dead, and Fu knows it. The Lunar Whale is in range now, and FuSuYa teleports his nephew to it. Golbez is unconscious and dreams about all five times he's met Cecil:
When Cecil killed Zemus
When Rydia beat him.
Tellah's death.
Kain's first betrayal.
And before Theodore almost killed his baby brother.
The Lunar Whale arrives at the Blue Planet, and this tale comes to a conclusion. With that, we've finished all character introductions, so we'll gather them together (presumably)...
...tomorrow!
This chapter sucked, but at least it was short. The challenge dungeons were terrible, too. Not as bad as Porom's, though.

Eidolons Shackeled
We begin in Mist. There are a series of flashbacks that, along with a few lines through other stories, remind us that Baron, Damcyan, Eblan, and even Fabul have helped to rebuild the village. Since its reconstruction, Rydia has become an idol for the children. They're sad when she's not here, but she occasionally visits Leviathan and Ashura. But those family reunions have become few and far between. She visits this time and is yelled at. The eidolons want Rydia to spend time with her own people. This feels tense, and it's about to get worse.
Rydia's opening scene plays again. Leviathan warps Rydia out of the "throne room" as the Mysterious Girl turns them to stone. Rydia was placed at the entrance of the Feymarch and wanted answers. All she sees now, though, are petrified eidolons. We can sense their dying thoughts, but it's unclear if Rydia can get them. Some are scared of dying, and others want Rydia to run away. She gets to the royal chamber and recalls when Baron destroyed her first home. Rydia vows to prevent more of her friends from dying.
We have to walk through the Feymarch Cave alone. The hurt floors are still gone, fortunately. We'll eventually get into a battle, and Rydia tries to summon. But no one shows up. Her friends really are gone. She's now realizing she's alone and defenseless, even though she still has -a level black magic.
When she leaves the cave, she's promptly attacked. After taking care of it, Luca and the Falcon arrive to pick her up. Both women have the heeby-jeebys that something's about to happen. As if on command, the Red Wings attack Castle Giott. The girls go to investors the damage, and the dwarfs are still nonchalant. Giott tells us the Mysterious Girl stole the crystal, so Rydia and Luca want to protect the remaining crystal. Giott protests his daughter going, but the valley girl wants to actually use her mother's necklace, which is the key to the Sealed Cavern. Luca also brings her upgraded Calca and Brian dolls along to provide terrible, awful, pathetically painful support. Human shields, I guess.
I visited the Sylph Cave for gil and treasure and saw even they have been turned to stone. But the Sealed Cavern is just as it always has been. Carnivorous doors and sentient walls. Because time is a circle, MG steals the crystal in the same spot Kain did. Luca remarks that MG really didn't think highly of them as she didn't bother to kill them, nor did she even attack the Falcon. She did destroy Calca and Brian, though, so they were successful human shields!
But they head to the surface with the intention of learning what happened to Cecil. They end up spotting Palom and Leonora heading to the Loadstone Cavern. This causes them to be sitting ducks, and they are attacked by Baron. They flee but crash land outside Agart. Luca says she can repair the ship, and maybe even her dolls, but she needs materials. Seven years ago, a mine was opened east of Agart, so that's where they head.
There's a rock at the bottom that Luca can use. It's not enough, but she can scrap Calca and Beina to compensate. She does, and the Falcon can take to the skies again.
Randomly, Titan attacks.
Rydia tries to speak to her eidolon, but he's unresponsive. All he does is try to cause an earthquake. He wasn't even focusing the girls at first. Eventually, Titan goes after Rydia and Luca and brings them to 1 HP. Before they die, some random dude not wearing shoes uses Jump to defeat the eidolon. It's the Man in Black. They all see the Tower of Babil shine, and the chapter ends. The Lunarian's Tale...
...tomorrow!
We couldn't get twenty more minutes of something here? I still think Rydia being the penultimate story is wise, but I'm disappointed. One more story before the beginning of the end!

Pulse of Babil
Edge's tale begins with a battle. He's against four other ninjas of various ages, but he beats them with ease. The four say how rad their master is, but Edge thinks he's gotten soft. But training is over, so it's time for work. Everyone wonders about the Moon and the Tower of Babil, and Edge plans to bear the entire weight of this alone. He goes to get some air, but the four students stop him. They know what's up and convince the King of Eblan to let them help. We now split into five stories!
Gekkou is up first, and he goes to the meteor crater. He also remarks that the planet is rotting before he notices five monks engaging in a battle with the Mysterious Girl. She quickly kills two of them, and the other three give chase. Gekkou wants to see. We travel through Yang's portion of the crater, learning the girl doesn't understand honor and vengeance. She doesn't get why the monks are after her. We can choose to battle her after she defeats the three, but a quick Meteor would wipe out our ninja tank. The game keeps going, so I wonder how the game goes without him? Regardless, he buries the monks and constructs the gravestone Yang saw before going home.
Zangetsu is next, and the old man is disguised as a dwarf under King Giott. He's not very good at it, but the dwarfs are cool. After he checks the dark crystal is still there, the Tower of Babil starts to shine! He makes his escape and has to go through some mines.
Izayoi is an epopt in training, and she goes through a cold plunge after speaking to Palom in Troia. She then decides to investigate the Tower of Trials but finds nothing of note. She can see Babil shine and goes home via ship.
Tsukinawa is pretending to be a mage trainee in Mysidia. He's weary of Porom. Disguised as a toad, he overhears the Elder ask Porom to find Kain. There was a frog during her tale, and I was curious what it meant. Good follow through! He stalks her to Ordeals but loses her at the Paladin room. He runs across the water to get back to Eblan. Huh!?
Edge sees the tower shine and goes to see it firsthand via the cave he once fled to. His parents are buried in the "town." "Out of sight; a ninja to the end." Before entering, he sees a hallucination of Rubicante, where the fire fiend once defeated him. As he travels up the tower, his four students catch up to him, telling him what they learned. Only Gakkou has any weight. At the top is the Mysterious Girl. Before confronting her, Edge sees his parents and Rubicante. He also hears a voice telling him to run. He ignores it. Ifrit beats them up, but Edge uses a smoke bomb to escape. The trap door they once fell through is still there, but so is Ifrit. They wind up where the Falcon was once docked, but nothing's there now. MG has them cornered, but Esge accepts time is repeating and jumps down. His backups follow.
The team lands on Cid's airship because time is repeating. Edge made a bet, it seems, and won. Rydia is also there, but he's more distracted by the ominous, imposing presence of the Man in Black. We'll learn who that guy is...
...tomorrow!
Yeah, Rydia is going to wrap this up nicely. Maybe...

Star Crossed Damcyan
The chancellor of Damcyan needs to speak to the King. The kingdom is in debt, but the guards have been instructed that the King wants to be alone. We can hear him playing the only song he knows on his lute. A woman with blue hair enters and convinces everyone to let her pass. This is Harley, a trusted adviser and secretary to King Edward. She informs Ed that bankruptcy is inconsequential.
Anyway, a meteor has fallen to the east. Everyone wants to investigate, and Harley offers to lead it. Reluctantly, Edward agrees. He also sends word to Baron, unaware of what's transpired. Edward can't sleep, so he walks around the castle. He sneaks into Harley's room and reads her diary. The girl thinks highly of her leader. He can also take a nap in her bed... He walks out of the castle but is stopped by the chancellor. Ed convinces them to let him walk around the desert on the condition three guards go with him. As expected, he walks further away. He's worried about Harley, and the Baron messenger hasn't returned. You can explore the Antlion's Den, but the meteor is to the north of that. This place sucks. There are so many encounters, and all four characters can only attack. Harley is in the middle, doing some science, and they all return home together. She said the Earth is rotting. Harley can also only attack... The party sees a Red Wing airship land, but Ed feels uneasy about it.
The emissary only tells Edward to stay away from the meteor. Baron will do all the work. Ed tries to be cordial, but he knows Cecil wouldn't act like that. After the nameless emissary leaves, Ed plans to see Cecil himself. Harley charisma's her way into the travel party. Edward picks some flowers before they go as a present. We now get to go through the Underwater Cave.
This dungeon is filler.
Harley begins to show fatigue in the cave, but she collapses as they enter town. They take her to the same house Rosa was taken to because time is a circle, and it's Desert Fever. For some reason, Edward goes alone through the Underwater Cavern.
This dungeon is bad game design.
The Antlions Nest is actually peaceful! The Ruby can only be found during a full moon, but why can we inspect a boulder in the room? Ed starts through the cavern again but gets attacked by bandits. He falls into the river, and it takes him to the entrance.
He returns to Kaipo and treats Harley but passes out due to exhaustion. He has a dream about Anna, and she's sad. She wants him to live, but he doesn't understand. Tellah shoes up and tells the spoony one to let go of the past. Ed wakes up, and Harley is looking over him despite still being ill. He feels guilty, but Edward'll be more perceptive of her in the future.
The boat to Baron is to the east. Edward and Harley discuss Golbez and the return of the Moon. It looks different than before. They end up seeing a ship from Fabul as they travel, and they call out to Yang. The vessel begins to slow down, so it's a short lived reunion.
They arrive in Baron and speak to Cecil. He's dismissive, and Ed knows what's up. He gives the flowers to Cecil and leaves after asking about Rosa and Ceodore. Before leaving, Cecil gives Edward a locked box. Harley is confused, but Ed tells her that wasn't Cecil. On the boat back to Kaipo, he tells her that the flower was Whisperweed, the same plant that helped slay the Dark Elf. They overhear Cecil and a girl trash talking Damcyan, plotting to take their crystal. Edward believes the box is a Carnelian Signet. Before this goes any further, Leviathan attacks them.
This chapter could have been an email. So how did Edward get back Damcyan for Dark Kain? When did Rosa show up after fleeing?

Master of Fabul
We begin with Yang, wearing a shirt, training the monk corps. He's King now! A young girl tries to join the training, but Yang tells his daughter, Ursula, that she can't. Yang is called to work and leaves. The topic is about how sketchy Baron has become. Yang is vehement that Cecil would never let his kingdom fall to ruin. No one agrees, but the King is King. A monk rushes into the room to inform Yang that Ursula escaped and ran off to Mt. Hobs. Yang takes a group and goes after her.
Mt. Hobs has had a lot added to it. But it's nothing to write home about. They find the heir there, beating up Dad Bomb, and question why she ran off. She wanted to investigate the meteor that landed here. She didn't tell anyone about it because no one would have let her see it. Yang will investigate but demands Ursula go home. It's too dangerous. She reminds him that her going home would bring her into more danger, so she's coming along.
We visit the same meteor Edward saw, but it's from a different angle. This side requires us to jump. But just as Harley, everyone sees that the planet is rotting. They eventually have to return home but see a fleet of Red Wings heading to Fabul.
Yang and crew somehow arrive first and prepare to meet Baron. They attack! It's just like it was before. So much, in fact, that Kain confronts them in the crystal chamber. We beat him up until Kain recalls he's good at jumping. Kain takes the crystal, and Yang wonders his next move. It is Ursula who mimics Rydia and encourages them to go get it back. And she convinces her dad to let her come along.
As they sail, they see Edward. We learn our ship is damaged somehow, so the captain has to beach it. We're out of fuel, which isn't wind. We need Palm Oil, so King Yang goes to find it. Alone. That night, Ursula goes to locate him with backup.
This maze is kinda lame, but we flashback a lot to Yang and Ursula's relationship. Yang seems scared to be a father, but he is happy when Shelia tells him she's pregnant. We learn Ursula showed promise, but Yang didn't want to teach her. He thought she only believed in strength and not heart. Shelia calls him dumb. Ursula eventually reaches a Palm Tree, but it's guarded by an adamantoise. No one can do any damage, but Yang eventually shows up. We see another flashback with Yang breaking a rock in one blow with Ursula watching on. This causes her to learn her special technique, Tenqetsu. This move might strike at an enemy's weakness. But it lets everyone else do more than one damage.
After the battle, Yang sees that Ursula is just as he hoped she'd be, so he agrees to become her master. Ursula can no longer call Yang father since he's the master now. This feels Ike a downgrade to me. We have to walk out of the maze forest and board the boat. We don't get far as Leviathan attacks! I'm gonna do Edge...
...tomorrow!
I want to get him out of the way because Rydia feels hella important. But I liked this chapter. Yang is rad, and Ursula won me over. Doing the challenge dungeon made her superpowered, and I fed her 200 silver apples to give her decent HP. I think she'll be an end game party member!

Mage's Voyage
The story begins on a ship. The captain and a crewman are trying to fish, but nothing is biting. And they're worried "the brat" will yell. A voice asks who said "brat," and Palom, with his highlighted tips, shows up. The captain apologizes for the lack of food, but Palom is kinda indifferent. He's more annoyed the old captain keeps calling him "Lord." Palom doesn't like being called such a title by a man several decades older than him. So Palom goes to take a nap at the front of the ship, and we see the start of this journey.
Troia has requested a mage to train an upcoming epopt. Porom volunteers, but the Elder tells Palom to go. Everyone is confused. Why would the hippy women of Troia need a black mage? But they respect Minwu, so he goes. That was a month ago. Palom asks what happened to the "week voyage," but the ship broke its compass, so they've been drifting for a while. Palom returns to his room on the boat, and then it's the next day. After some walking around, land is seen. We've reached our destination!
We're far to the south of Troia, and there's no bridge to the castle. We'll need to get a chocobo and cross the river. It seems dumb to build a port and large tower in South Troia without connecting it to the north. But Troia is much as it was two decades ago. Head to the castle, and we'll learn why there are only seven epopts now. One has fallen sick, and there are no backups. So now we need to do a crash course for an upcoming girl. Leonora enters, and the epopts call her a prodigy (at the age of 24), but she has no black magic. Palom again questions why the epopts need a black mage, and the women say they trust Minwu. Reluctantly, Palom agrees, and it's back south to the Tower of Trials.
Leonora opens the seal, and her training begins. As They climb, Palom teaches the girl the fundamentals of black magic, having her learn the basic elemental spells in the process. It's actually kinda interesting. We can also kill Palom, but I never tried to finish him off. Palom constantly wonders why he's here and has to scold Leonora. It's more of a warning not to get ahead of yourself, but Leonora does grow from a timid girl (aged 24) into someone more secure in herself. He does ask if Leonora's goal is to be a sage, though. He reminds her that sages have to learn both schools of magic to become a sage, which is interesting. Palom's goal is to be a sage, but he doesn't know white magic. At the top is a simple inscription to reiterate the words to the current leaders. This really was about the journey and not the destination. Palom gets angry, as does Leonora, but at two different things. He's mad at the stupid trial, and she doesn't like her idols being insulted. She can get heated when need be. But the situation settles down, and the group walks back to Terra Firma. We can't teleport out...
Back at the castle, Palom grills them one more time. The epopts give in and say they're worried about Baron. Palom has been on the sea for a month and doesn't know what happened to Cecil. So he gets mad until he recalls there are two moons again. Everyone starts to wonder if they want the crystals, and they assume that's the case. Palom comes up with a plan to pretend that he stole the crystal. That's the plan if anyone sketchy shows up. And wouldn't you know it... Not-Rydia shows up! Palom and Leonora take the crystal, and the epopts play along. We find out the girl thinks humans are inferior, so the girl isn't one of them.
In the meantime, Palom and Leonora take a secret exit from the crystal room. It brings them in front of the castle. Leonore suggests taking the crystal to the Lodestone Cavern, so we're off to find a black chocobo. One's where you think it is.
Lodestone is just as it always has been, so don't equip any silver armlets. Carry on until you reach the crystal chamber. There is a hidden path we'll need to take that helps prevent intruders, but the group also sees that Baron zombies are still giving chase. Palom will place the crystal in the dais for some reason, and the two plot their next move. They don't have the time to find a conclusion, as the Dark Elf is revived. His soul never died, and the return of crystal gave him form!
Just as seventeen years ago, he has two forms. Form one is inconsequential, but form two is a doozy. He's completely immune to all magic, and our group consists of two mid mages. Fortunately, we're saved by Shiva!
Uh...
The Mysterious Girl summoned the ice queen to stop our enemy, but that doesn't make her a friend. She demands the Earth Crystal, but Palom won't hand it over. Leonora removed it from the dais. Palom asks for it and teleports Leonora out of the room. He used Warp, so she didn't go far. But with her gone, he pulls a Palom and casts Break on himself, turning him and the Earth Crystal to stone. The girl thinks she'll just shatter him, but Leonora rushes back in and casts Esuna on Palom. He gets mad, but she didn't think MG would have called his bluff. She then goes on to reveal that she knows a lot about him. It turns out that the little girl Palom was hitting on at the end of IV was Leonora. She's known him for a long time.
Anyway, MG Diamond Dusts us and steals the crystal. Palom tried to hype up his new protege, and they learned a new Band tech, but it was horribly ineffective. Palom cries out, and his sister, who's descending Mt. Ordeals with Dark Kain, hears it. His tale comes to an end. I have no clue who I'll play as...
...tomorrow!
The game says Yang, and I like Yang, so probably Yang.

The Vanished Lunar Whale
Porom's tale begins exactly where FFIV ended. Palom is talking himself up to the little girl by a river instead of attending classes with Elder Minwu. Porom scolds and drags him back, but Palom keeps not listening. He ends up storming out, so Porom has to go find him. She convinces her twin to come back by reminding him how Tellah was. Back at Minwu, Palom reminds the others in the room that he and his sister have gone on a great journey and grown a lot. Minwu agrees but also knows Palom is still too young. In time, Palom will be granted more freedom, but for now, he must obey his elders. This appeases the rebellious boy.
Several years later, the twins are on their way to Kaipo in the Damcyan desert. They're still considered children, but they're on a training mission. They take a pit stop in Kaipo to pay their respects to Tellah and Anna. Palom wants to be like Tallah, specifically to be a sage. Porom tries to inform him that that goal isn't as easy or short as he hopes. Palom needs to be a mage for the people the world over. It's not a title that can be taken. It has to be earned. It seems to work a little, but the visitation isn't long lasting. They quickly go north to the Underground Waterway.
This place is just as it ever has been. The battle party is two mages, so make use of Palom's -ra spells. Thunder and Blizzard, especially. You can also buy rods in Kaipo. The two make their way to the waterfall, where they're attacked by a fake Octomammarh, Cooler Mammoth. It's a similar fight, but the main body is weak to ice. I went after the magic spamming tentacle first and slowed everyone else down before leaving one arm left. Palom is ecstatic. Tellah had problems with this creature, but Palom killed it with relative ease. Porom realizes this entire trip was just to follow in his idle's footsteps. It was just to gloat. She is furious, but this section ends.
A few more years pass, and the twins are teenagers. Porom is waiting for her brother. They're supposed to go to Mist to see Rydia, but he's late. Cid shows up, so Porom decides to go alone after he hits on an underaged girl. But it turns out he was already on board. He snuck through the Devil's Road alone and set this thing up. The two argue, and it's clear they hate each other.
They arrive in Mist and inspect Rydia's mom's gravestone. But Rydia is in her house and is thrilled to see her young friends. It's a short reunion, as Palom asks to go to Feymarch. Shockingly, Rydia agrees. It confuses Porom, but the whole group heads to the Underworld. They stop by Gioitt's castle to say hi, and Luca, the valley girl aficionado, joins them. Palom isn't thrilled since it seems Luca has a crush on him.
The five of them go to the Cave to the Feymarch, and Cid and Luca hang back. The hurt floors are gone, so don't worry about Float. Three mages make this part more annoying than anything. They reach the bottom, but Rydia has second thoughts. She says the eidolons don't like humans and warns about the abnormal flow of time. Rydia asks the twins to stay back, which they do. They question why Rydia let them come, but the summoner returns quickly. Everything is fine! They return to Cid, who's taken Luca as an apprentice!
We finally reach the modern times, and Porom is alone in the Tower of Prayer. Minwu joins her just as the Lunar Whale rises out of the ocean and goes to the returned Moon. This scares everyone, so Minwu orders Porom to find Kain, who's rumored to be on Mt. Ordeals. Palom is on a separate mission to Troia, which made Porom jealous. Unlike her recluse of a brother, she's unsure of her role and job. To be twenty two again...
She's joined by two nameless and faceless mages. It's uneventful until they reach the top. They enter the room where Cecil became a paladin, but it's ruined. We learned Kain broke it in a battle against himself. But a strange voice calls out to her. It's Kluya, the man who brought magic to the Blue Planet. It's cryptic but warns her of the future. The team leaves and is quickly ambushed by nine zombies. Fortunately, Kain dispatches them. Porom relays the elder's message, but Kain isn't fazed. He has no allegiances to Baron anymore. But he is concerned about his friends, so he joins them.
Mysidia is being attacked. They came from the Devil's Road, which means Baron has fallen. The group finds Minwu, saves him, and brings him to bed. Everyone assumes the monsters want the crystals. Porom goes to get air, and she instantly sees the Rydia clone! As Minwu assumed, she wants the crystals. But she doesn't say why. Porom won't surrender it, and Minwu comes out for a battle. The Mysterious Girl doesn't do anything. She'll eventually fall forth Ramuh, which worries our pink haired white mage. He doesn't do anything, but Minwu eventually teleports Porom out of range before Ramuh Judgement Bolt's them. The battle ends, and Kain leaps onto the scene. It plays out as it did in Kain's story. And thus, Porom's story ends.
It wasn't very good. It seemed to simply be a vehicle for other people to shine. I can only hope her brother's story will be better. And her Challenge Dungeon was booty!

Return of the Dragoon
There's a lot of jumping around, so expect me to get orders wrong. Unless...
The fabled dragoon, Kain Highwind, has moved to Mt. Ordeals. Rumors elsewhere indicate it's to atone in a similar way to Cecil. In fact, we see a scene where Kain tries to experience the Paladining in the same room. He loses to his mirror self, though. Something in the air stirs him, and it's time to leave the mountain. As he's about to, Kain hears a voice. He goes to find it to discover that it's from a girl who knows him. Porom from Mysidia (and her mage cohorts) have been ambushed by nine zombies. Kain easily dispatches them. Porom informs him why she's here, but we don't get to hear it. Instead, we jump ahead to the group in Mysidia. The girl who attacked Baron has also attacked Mysidia, and Kain is intrigued. He pulls out a crystal, which is what the girl is seeking. No clue where he got the crystal from... Kain is willing to hand over the crystal, but only if the girl allows him to meet Cecil. Kain wants to kill him. The girl agrees to his terms, and the two have trouble communicating as they walk through the Devil's Road.
They arrive in Baron, but Cecil's nowhere to be found. Instead, the girl pulls a Vader and altered the deal. If Kain wants Cecil, he needs to get the crystals from Fabul and Damcyan. With more annoyance than anything, Kain agrees. He takes an airship to Fabul, but we catch up to him at Damcyan.
Kain goes alone to confront Edward but hesitates when Ross pleads with him. Kain has been open about his intentions, but the woman he still loves causes him to reconsider. It's been sixteen years, Kain, get over her. Plenty of dragons in the sky, my dude!
Meanwhile...
Ceodore and George, who's left handed, are in Mist. George believes the mountain will prevent Baron from giving chase. After they see the gravestone of a certain summoner, who George offers a prayer to, they start to climb the vertical cliff. It's one of the only unique dungeons in TAY, so it's kinda cool. The going up part was easy, but Ceodore loses his footing going down and falls. He's fine when George reaches him, but it's clear that Ceodore needs some refinement in his knightly actions. As they return to sea level, they notice a new Red Wings airship sailing overhead to Damcyan. That can't be good.
Sadly, they can't take any shortcuts, so they walk through the desert to Kaipo and rest there the night. George is worried about desert fever. What's more concerning is Baron guards have found them. They're zombies, so Kain warns Ceodore not to go easy on them. Ceodore knows. They dispatch the zombie guards, see the gravestones of Tellah and Anna, and start their journey through the Underground Waterway. They spend the night there because chasing after an airship is easy. George overhears Ceodore asking for his mother in his sleep. They awaken and find the familiar Octo Kraken guarding its waterfall exit. Despite taking three days, the airship is still outside Damcyan.
Ceodore sees the Enterprise arrive on the scene as we cut back to Kain. Edward tries to stop the ever maddening Kain and even unleashes a Carnelian Signet in his own throne room. It does nothing, and Kain attacks him. Unless you try to lose, you'll win because Edward always sucks. As a bonus, Kain kidnaps Rosa and returns to Baron. Cid lands near the castle to investigate, and Ceodore and George arrive. Cid joins their group as an active participant, and Edward is a tag along as they chase after Kain.
We see Kain making his way through the castle, presumably to the girl and Cecil, as Ceodore has to fight his way through. They eventually catch up in the room Porom and Palom sacrificed themselves in, and Rosa gets confused. She calls George Kain? Then who's in the armor? George and Kain know each other, and George says he can accept him now. A flashback returns us to when Kain got beaten by himself. The mirror left the real Kain lying there and left. The armor is all of Kain's hatred and envy manifest, while George is real. Dark Kain is acting like this because Kain still loves Rosa.
But now's the time to get over everything? Kain fights himself and gets beaten again. Everyone tries to help him, but that just spurs him on more to solo this! He pulls out a spear and is ready to defeat his old self. The battle would have been pretty easy had I been leveling Kain up, but I know the future. Anyway, Kain eventually manages to win! The two Kains reform, but a new Kain is made. This is Holy Dragoon Kain! He's just like Kain but with Cecil's white magic abilities. Rosa picks up the three crystals, and the five of them head to confront the girl and the remains of Cecil. But that's someone else's story. A story we'll see...
...tomorrow!
But probably not, though. Maybe it's Porom's?

The Last of the Red Wings
---
We start in a way that feels familiar. A red airship is flying over a blue planet while a familiar militaristic build up plays. The Red Wings have returned. This time, they're going rather than coming, and it's to a test and not a war crime. A young man, Ceodore, is en route to his trial. Should he succeed, he will become a knight of Baron. Along with him are two other men. Wedge, who tries to aid the anxious Ceodore, and Biggs, the gruff, no nonsense commanding officer. Wedge constantly reminds Ceodore that he's King Cecil's and Queen Rosa's child. He's the descendant of two great heros. Ceodore isn't fond of that comparison and wants to be his own man. Biggs doesn't care that his future King is before him and treats him like any lowly grunt. He even hits him when he talks out of turn.
The Red Wings land outside the town of Mithril. The Adamant Mines are their destination, but that will come tomorrow. The trial is only to start on the full moon, which is a unique mechanic to The After Years. The phases of the moon alter the effectiveness of battle commands, and we'll have to keep track of the rest of the game. But know now that Ceodore's attack will be nerfed when we enter. I hung around the town and got to level eight just to be sure. It helped me get enough money for the gear in the shops, along with finding the pig dancer brother's ruby ring.
We return to the inn and prepare for tomorrow. Biggs and Wedge accompany Ceodore through the first floor of the Adamant Grotto and tutorialize the battle system. It's the same as IV, but there's also the new Band System, which is Chrono Trigger's duel tech. But the bottom floors are all Ceodore. At level eight (and a long sword), even with a lowered fight command, he can one shot the mobs and out speed the entire group. There are three floors, with a treasure chest located at the bottom. Inside is the Knight's Emblem, the goal of Ceodore's trial. But it's guarded by a sand worn. This battle felt scripted, and the worm will bring Ceodore's HP to 1 after a while. Biggs and Wedge enter the room and suggest returning a failure, but Ceodore is adamant to keep fighting. His unique battle command, Awaken, becomes available. It turns him super saiyan for several turns, but it will wear off eventually, leaving him at 1 HP again. Fortunately, Ceodore has white magic as a backup, but Awakened Ceodore should be around the entire battle. His COs congratulate him on victory, and the three return to the airship. Wedge is pumped, but Biggs and Ceodore don't seem to be plused. Ceodore knows he's got a lot to learn, and Biggs knows a rat tail only means the beginning of a story.
But just like Cecil seventeen years ago, the Red Wings are attacked! The three of them manage to defeat the belphegors before noticing that Baron is under attack.
We cut to the castle, and Cecil and Rosa experience the instigating event. Cecil asks Rosa to stay back because his mild sexism hasn't abated in two decades, and we control the previous hero as he patrols his castle. He saves a woman in the west tower before Rosa joins him in the east. They look up to the sky and see the return of the second moon, the same moon that housed the Lunarians from seventeen years ago. It skipped orbit after Zemus died, but it's returned now. Just as the monsters have... Cid unites with them before we can check out Cecil's room. It's the same as before, but we learn why Ceodore is an only child. The three Harveys sleep in the same bed(s). They wander through the barracks and learn the siege came from the sky. Cecil, Rosa, and Cid fight off more mobs before Cecil asks Cid to take Rosa and run. They should find Ceodore! Rosa protests for a moment before thinking of her teenage son. As Cid takes her, Cecil looks up to the moon. As he does, a dragon descends from it. It's god himself, Bahamut. A girl who resembles Rydia dismounts him and says some ominous things before Cecil tries to solo Bahamut. But his half blood isn't good enough, according to the girl.
We return to Ceodore, who's not having a good time. The assault has grown more powerful, and the ship is damaged. It begins to crash, and Biggs shields the prince from further damage. The Red Wings smash into the ground...
We jump around a few times to see Edge and King Giott remark on the return of the Tower of Babel. We also see Rydia in the Feymarch, but she's quickly warped out. The girl who attacked Cecil enters the room and turns the King and Queen of the Eidolons to stone.
Ceodore wakes up to the wreckage of the airship. He checks on his comrades, but they're all dead. Only Biggs is alive, but he's on his last breath. He recalls sailing with Cecil after the raid on Mysidia all those years ago before informing his young soldier of his final order: Return home! Ceodore is alone in the forest and is quickly attacked. He manages to defeat the first wave but is quickly defeated by the second. He's about to be killed, but a hooded man saves him. The two talk for a moment and plan their next move. They're west of Mysidia and can take the Devil's Road to get home. Ceodore introduces himself, but the hooded man says he abandoned his name. I'm gonna call him George.
The two go to Mysidia and meet with the acting leader of Mysidia. Elder Minwu is old and fragile, so a pink haired woman who knows Ceodore stands in. This is the twined white mage Parom. Since she can't leave town, she calls on two nameless mages to join us.
The Devil's Road is a dungeon similar to Sabrina's Pokémon Gym. It's short, though. But they arrive in Baron, and it looks okay. Everyone informs us Cecil saved them. We check in with Grandma Farrell before entering the castle. Despite being the prince, he's not allowed in by orders of the King. Something is fishy. But George knows of the e back way in once we find the key. He's also shocked to learn of Ceodore's lineage. But Cid's daughter has the key. The Ancient Waterway is the same as before. As they enter the castle, Ceodore goes ahead to find his parents, and the nameless, faceless mages leave. We control George, who hears a voice. It guides him to the dungeon, and it's filled with Baron knights. George knows Ceodore is in trouble. He walks to the throne room, but it's empty. As he leaves, Cecil joins him. He doesn't recognize George and demands the beggar to leave. George complies and finds Ceodore as he exits. They quickly exit, but George keeps his findings to himself. Cecil seemed different... But we see that Cecil sent guards to find them, so they need to escape.
George suggests running to Mist. The cave looks the same, but it's shaking a lot. One shake causes Ceodore to fall into a chasm, and George jumps after him. The two climb their way back up but find themselves surrounded by Baron soldiers, all of whom are monsters like the one guarding the cave. Fortunately, a thick mist affects the cave, and George and Ceodore use it to hide. The guards never saw them, so it's unlikely they'll meet again. The two leave the cave and head for Mist. Outside, George reveals that he's hunting Kain... The camera cuts to Kain on Mount Ordeals, and that's the end of the prologue. Unless my bosses patch, I'll keep on...
...tomorrow!
I wanted to write, but writing makes me hate writing, so radical!
