Dear, Diary
"We made it to Tokkus as fast as we could. We didn't even make any side trips! As soon as we reached the town, though, it went wrong.
We were immediately parallelized with a spell. All four of us hit the ground and were surrounded by Argus knights. We woke up in a jail cell with wooden walls. There were a few other, sane, Argus knights around, including the King. They told us that the court mage, Hein, had brainwashed the entire army to do his bidding. He then did something to the Living Tree to make it work for him as a mobile fortress. The King asked us to defeat the wayward courtier, which we were already planning on doing for what he did to us. Because this is a wooden fort, there was an old squirrel hole, or something, in one of the jail cells. Casting Mini on the party, we went through it.
We then made our way through the Living Tree, fighting mobs that aren't terribly hard. I realized that I could use the magic imbued within staffs to unleash the magic within. It does more than my regular attacks, so I need to hit the gym when this is all over. After we found a rad sword for our knight, Triton, we ventured into the throne room of Hein. He's making black smoke rise from his skeletal arm, waning about great the power of darkness is. Was he always a skeleton? That's a pretty big red flag, King Argus. Hein continues by comparing his power to art and how he'll use it to rule the world before telling us it's time to die!
I saw so many colors flash before my eyes as I woke up back outside Tokkus. We ventured into the town, only for the previous event to take place again. I felt as though this wasn't the first time it happened. The only difference this time is that Drew decided to become a Black Mage. It's a cool robe! Back in Hein's Castle, we approached him again. It was the same speech. I paid very close attention this time. Xander has been a thief for a while, but he's an adventurous sort. He wanted to try to be a scholar, and he really helped us out here. Hein can alter his elemental weakness on the fly. Xander, though, could always see it and tell us what it was. When he didn't change, he would perform a hard hitting blow. Luckily, memory fragments told us we should be in the back row. With Xander commanding the party, Drew and I exploited the undead's weaknesses. Triton was there to heal and take blows for us when we got weak. I really like this version of Triton. He's a good pal, ya know! If we really needed it, I gave a few heals, myself. We managed to avoid any of his sleep attacks, and we didn't care about his blind or his poison attempts. For the first time, all journey, all four of us survived. This time I didn't see all those fancy colors. I wonder what changed?
Argus knights ran up to us and congratulated us on our victory. Suddenly, yet another disembodied voice spoke to us. This time, though, it was a kind voice. The Elder Tree thanked us. He told us what Hein had done to him and promised to return the villagers to Tokkus. He did, and we all went to the Living Forest. The fairies were thrilled, and the Elder Tree told us he plans to sleep for 1000 years to repair the damage. He also warned us about the world we're above. He mentioned something about something tragic happening 1000 years ago and history repeating itself now. Does this have anything to do with the duel worlds? He handed us the Fangs of Wind and bid us luck. He blocked off the forest from us, so I hope he gets a good rest!
We returned to Tokkus, which was back in the swing of it all. I'm glad. We then headed to Argus to speak to the King. Cid told us he's the guy we need to talk to if we want an airship engine. Argus happily handed over the Wheel of Time. I thought an airship engine would be bigger, but Triton carried it all the way back to ship. We headed for Cannon to let Cid do his thing. When he finished turning the Enterprise into an airship, he let something important slip.
We're not from this world. Cid and us are from the planet below. Ten years ago, we were all on board Cid's airship when the entire planet when dark. Cid lost control of the vessel and crashed. Us five were the only survivors. We grew up, and he fell in love. But it's time to go home.
But we wanted one last goodbye. The moogles had some mail for us we read, and we found out the kids from Ur went missing on an adventure. We found them in the cave being attacked by three bombs. Xander really led the charge and got all the thanks. The kids gave him a Crystal Shard for an Onion Knight job. I feel like that's an insult? Sara had nothing more to say to Triton, and we skipped over saying bye to my dad. We'll keep all correspondence via Mognet, k? With this done, we took the Enterprise and sailed off the edge of the known world!
The winds...the terrible, howling winds. They almost blew the ship apart. The black clouds felt heavy in our faces as we descended through the veil. Despite nearly being knocked off the boat, we managed. Underneath us was a sight we could never have imagined. It was a vast, sprawling nothing. More black clouds and air currents lie before us. We sailed around a long time but barely found anything of note. There are a few landmasses on the eastern expanse and a massive crystal spire to the north of them, but otherwise, this was a dead world. We're still feeling the effects of those clouds, so we're resting now before we set off again in the morning...or whatever we can call morning down here."
Hein ended my first playthrough six years ago. He was a mental roadblock stopping me from playing again before now. I honestly think he's the worst boss in all the franchise. I'm so glad to have gotten past him despite it, despite it taking an hour of trying to keep our roles in check. The wiki says a Monk is actually very good against Hein, but who reads guides anymore? Let's get depressed for tomorrow!"
