The Time Egg

This is, technically, a sidequest, but it gets its own chapter title. I guess that's a good reason to separate it from the others. Plus, let's be real, why wouldn't you revive Crono? The Princess needs her love interest!

Gaspar, the Guru of Time at the End of Time, handed us a Time Egg and called it a Chrono Trigger. He also suggested we talk to Balthazar. If we find Balthanu, he'll let us in that we need a clone of Crono if we're to bring him back. Someone named Norstein Bekkler can give us a clone, and it's said he likes fairs... We could have spoken to this guy at the start of the game, and only Crono's Mom has NPC dialog priority. He runs a horror tent at the Millennial Fair. I don't know what he does during our date with Marle, but he makes us, if we spend Silver Points, copy the clone in question now. We have four buttons to press, and each has us operating a different arm or gesture. Depending on how long we can copy, the price of the Cronolne will drop. I got about ten actions in, costing me 10000. The clone is ported to Crono's room, where we can dodge around his mom worrying about him. Return to Balthanu, and he'll perform the robot's final programmed action. Three poyozo dolls will appear in front of us before they teleport away to Death Peak. They will aid us in our journey to the top, where our hopes and love may combine with the importance of Crono's placement in time to revive him. As a last request for all he's done for us, Balthazar will ask us to shut down the Nu. It's out of programs to run, so it's time to go to sleep in the waves beyond time. With a sad heart, Marle turns off the robot. We never really got to speak to Balthazar, but thank you and farewell.

Death Peak is a winding mountain path, inaccessible until we do all of that. Strong winds whip around the first area, blocking our path forward. With the poyozo dolls in place, though, we can start our climb. They'll turn into trees, and we can use them to block the winds and reach "safety." The mobs up are pretty simple. Krakker and Macabres have no gimmick and post little threat. There are three bosses, but all are the same. Lavos Spawn exist. Whatever you do, don't hit the shell! Focus everything to the face, lest we get hit by a massive counter. Its normal attacks aren't fun, so limiting any damage is tantamount. LS can put a character to sleep or confuse them. I had Marle Haste everyone up while Lucca and Glenn Red Pined him. If need be, Double Cure. You don't want to die en route to reviving Crono? The third Lavos Spawn's shell will hang around, which is great because we'll need to push it to reach the ledge. Nearly everyone has a new weapon in the chests, so make sure to collect them.

At the very top is a lone tree. Marle says a prayer into the Time Egg, and the Pendant starts the glow in Lucca's hands. The glow is attracted to the Egg, and the combination of the two causes the Egg to float. But it breaks! All we've done was for naught, and Marle falls to her knees in agony. She cries out for Crono, and the Sun in the sky, the only light on the entire planet, becomes dark. An eclipse?

We're suddenly transported to the final moments of Crono's life, except everything is frozen. We quickly swamp the real Crono with Clono, and we see our Crono return to the top of Death Peak. The party wakes him up, thrilled that he's back. Marle throws her arms around Crono, and the love story can finally begin! I've never done this scene without Marle, and I wonder if it's different without her? Who gets hug priority over Glenn, Robo, or Magus? We'll all head back to the End of Time, and Gaspar lets us know he's glad Crono is back. The gang is all here! The save chapter title changes to the last one in the game, so we're in the end game now! Gaspar gives us clues to the rest of the sidequests, which I'll do...

... this week!

I'm going to write up one giant page about everything worth writing about. Everyones' best weapons and armor are upcoming, all the character arcs are about to end, and we'll save the world. Hopefully! Give me a few days for this. BRB!
